Hello fellow pet owners!! Thank you for visiting my
website and I hope you enjoy the many pictures, poems, helpful information, and
links that I have provided. Let me introduce myself and tell you a little about
myself and why I got into the pet sitting business.
My name is Mike Glovier. I’m 35 years old. I got my first pet when I was a year
old, she was an orange tabby kitten named Tinkerbelle. My mom named her since I
couldn’t talk yet! I grew along with her for about three years until she went
missing. This was my first of many pets.
I was raised on a large farm in Southwestern Virginia and was brought up doing
hard work and learning many of life’s hard lessons at an early age. It wasn’t
all hard work, I also enjoyed being surrounded by farm animals and pets. We
raised beef cattle and milk cows, horses, hogs, chickens, and ducks. Our farm
was also a large tobacco, corn, and hay producer. We had several dogs and cats,
and of course I always made friends with many of the farm animals. I was on a
horse (not alone) before my first birthday and by the time I was five I was
riding my old friend Jerse, an old Jersey milk cow, bareback.
After graduating high school with honors in 1990, I headed off to the University
of Virginia to get a college education. I started off pre-med then changed my
major to Environmental Science. While in school, I participated in many
extra-curricular activities including becoming a brother of Pi Kappa Phi
Fraternity where I held a couple of offices and participated in many Greek
activities on and off campus. I was also an R.A. (resident assistant) for two
years in co-ed dormitories. I was elected secretary of the Honor Court for a one
year term. I worked in the campus bookstore the majority of my college years.
After five years I finally graduated with a B.S. Degree in Environmental Science
in December of 1995.
After graduating I decided to move to Knoxville where the job market was a
little more diverse than back home in the country. I had several friends here in
Knoxville which made the transition a little easier. My first job was at the
Knoxville Zoo as a Hoof Stock & Elephant Keeper. I later took a job at Agri-Feed
& Pet Supply as the Aquatic Specialist, and also recommended the proper dog food
to customers with special needs dogs. I left Agri-Feed when Petsmart first came
to Knoxville to help open the new store. After the store here in Knoxville had
opened I was offered a manager’s position at the Johnson City Store, which I
accepted. After several months working at the Johnson City Petsmart, I was
called by the City of Knoxville to interview for a Hazardous Waste Technician
position. I got the position and within a year I was promoted to the City of
Knoxville Hazardous Waste Coordinator. My primary focus was the Household
Hazardous Waste Facility on Elm Street, but I had several other responsibilities
as well. I worked for the city for eight years. I resigned my position in
February 2007 due to my second rotator cuff tear and repair on the same shoulder
in a year’s time. I also felt the urge to get into something on my own,
something that I truly love, working with animals.
Angels In Disguise was born out of my desire to be working for myself and do
something personally rewarding and fulfilling. I felt that there was a need for
a full service pet sitter in town, one that loves and understands all pets and
their owner’s needs. I love to travel myself; therefore I know how important it
is to have someone that you can entrust your pet(s) and home to while away.
I am competent and comfortable administering medications and supplements for
special needs pets both injections and orals. I have done both for years on the
farm and with my own animals. I am currently working on a Veterinary Assistant
Certification and will finish in early fall. |
