Angels In Disguise

About the Name

When we think of angels, the first image that usually comes to mind is one of beautiful winged creatures clothed in white robes and surrounded by clouds.  But what are the true characteristics of an angel?  In Scripture they are heavenly messengers sent to earth to make known God’s love for mankind.  They are happy to go where they are needed, to yield their will to the will of their Master, wanting only to please and serve him.

It is no wonder that animals are so often compared to angels.  They serve as living examples for us, to teach us how to love unconditionally, how to trust, to be content with what we have, to be faithful to our calling, and to be loyal friends and companions no matter what may happen.

Some animals are specialized, trained to assist the vision or hearing impaired or to work with the police, while others visit hospitals and nursing homes to provide healing comfort through their gentle presence - the touch of a wet nose on someone’s hand, the soft furry head resting on a lap.  But whether an animal is specially trained or chosen to live its life as a family pet, one thing is for certain, the relationship between human and animal forms a spiritual bond that can never be broken.   Someone once said that animals are angels in fur suits, and we believe that is true.  Although there are neither wings nor white robes to identify them, it is evident that their mission on earth is truly heaven-sent, and animals are - after all - angels in disguise.

Angels In Disguise

They come so briefly into our lives – these angels from above,

To teach us about loyalty, honesty, and love.

They want only to be near us,

To answer when we call,

They comfort and they cheer us,

And that’s not nearly all.

Their love comes without strings attached,

Their hearts are brave and true,

Their faithfulness remains unmatched,

Their good shines through and through.

They have no guile – no bragging,

They are just what you see,

Their joy shows in tail wagging,

A lick says “please love me.”

They’re here when're we call to them,

In sickness or in health,

It matters not at all to them,

Whether in poverty or wealth.

For all the trappings of this earth,

Mean nothing to the wise,

They recognize this from their birth,

These angels in disguise.

So, next time you find a stray,

And look into its eyes,

It could be that you’ll say someday,

This was my angel in disguise.
